At its (frigid, not molten) core, Nil is an album about monotony without any embellishments. It's not a romanticized or abstract depiction of monotony. Rather, it is a very literal, faithful recreation of monotony is its undisturbed form. The little processes in life that go unnoticed. That of the mind, the body's faculties, the natural world, and those on a cosmic scale. It attempts to portray the coordinated rhythms, motions, patterns, and habits encrusted in our plane of existence. This is an album that's deliberately crafted to evoke images of waiting rooms, lobbies, offices, classrooms, anywhere where a clock might be ticking uncomfortably loud. Somewhere the mind is not only allowed but forced to wander, where cleanliness and bureaucracy are so hypnotic, all-encompassing, and demanding of one's attention that one begins to question their own sanity. It's a fresh, untouched coat of snow on a bleak day full of naked trees and muted sound.
